Ukraine strengthens air defense, russia loses tankers
This is a review of important news from the russian-ukrainian war. We tell you how Ukraine defends itself from russian aggression.
Ukraine will receive reinforcements for its air defense. This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelensky following his visit to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where he met with US President Donald Trump.
This is especially important for Ukraine now, since russia is trying to destroy the infrastructure of peaceful Ukrainian cities with air strikes and leave Ukrainians without heat and energy supply in cold weather.
The French Navy detained an oil tanker in the neutral waters of the Mediterranean Sea, which was heading from russia. French President Emmanuel Macron noted in this regard that the tanker is subject to international sanctions and is suspected of using a false flag.
He also noted that allied states have joined the operation.
"We are determined to comply with international law and ensure the effective implementation of sanctions," the French president said.
The French head of state also stressed that the activities of the shadow fleet contribute to the financing of russia's aggressive war against Ukraine.
The President of Ukraine has repeatedly called on Europeans to take more decisive action against the russian shadow fleet. According to him, Europe is doing a lot to support Ukraine, but so far it has not managed to stop the russian shadow fleet and limit the ways to circumvent sanctions. He cites the actions of the United States, whose naval forces and the US Coast Guard have already detained seven shadow fleet tankers that were used to circumvent sanctions.
The sanctions list, which was recently published by Switzerland, includes more than forty russian tankers.
It is striking not only the cruelty, but also the negligence with which the russians are fighting. In the bitter cold, the russians tried to destroy the infrastructure of Ukrainian cities and leave them without heat supply. But at the same time, the negligent russian military attacked not only Ukrainian cities, but also the russian city of Belgorod itself, which is located near the Ukrainian border, approximately 40 km away.
These days, the russian authorities had to evacuate approximately 1,700 residents of this city due to the dropping of a russian 500-kilogram air bomb on it. And in December last year, russian aircraft dropped a bomb near the power plant that supplies Belgorod. As a result, the city and surrounding villages were left without power supply.
Also these days, a russian air defense missile destroyed a multi-story residential building in the russian village of Novaya Adygeya.
In total, since February 2022, the moment of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the russians have dropped more than 300 aerial bombs on their own cities and villages and on temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories.
